The following is the course outline with links to the materials for the IT & IoT Fundamentals short course. You will be stepped through virtualization, Linux, basic networking, permissions and coding no day 1. On day 2 we will introduce you to Amazon EC2 Web Services as well as some more systems-level scripting. This is a basic introductory level course and is appropriate for any learner interesting in furthering their fundamental IT knowledge or considering a potential career pivot on switch include some IT skills. If this looks a little basic, please checkout our IoT Skills and Platforms which is designed as an intermediate level short course to progress after IT & IoT Fundamentals.

The expected student workload for this course is either 25 or 50 hours, varying with whether you choose to take the unit with assessment, which will provide 1 credit point towards a Murdoch degree.

For this course, the fees will cover the electronics, which will be yours to take home after the course is complete. The only things that we require that you bring are:

  • A charged laptop to work on for the day - with a USB port and administrative or root access
  • A charged smartphone (Android or OSX)

Completion and submission of a short video that describes a program that will measure some environmental variable and move the data securely between Linux machines.
